The Department of Environmental Sciences (DISAT) of the University of Milano Bicocca, is a
multidisciplinary department able to tackle Environmental problems from different point of view.
The
principal research areas of the Department are Ecology and Ecotoxicology, Chemistry, Biology, Earth
Science, Physics, Mathematics, Informatics. The DISAT is well integrated in the Bicocca Campus, the
new Technological University of Milano, especially with the Department of Biotechnology and
Science of Materials. The Department staff consists of about 70 employees, including, scientist,
technicians and administrators.
The Department has been involved, in the last years, in several EU projects either as partner or as coordinator:
Environmental and Climate, Medalus III, European Project for Ice coring in Antarctica,
Geomorphology and Environmental Impact Assessment. In particular, the Ecotoxicological Group
(responsible Prof. Marco Vighi) has a long experience in field monitoring and modelling of
environmental distribution and fate of organic chemicals, environmental risk assessment, aquatic
toxicology for single or mixtures of environmental pollutants. The group is well equipped with
facilities for analytical work and modelling.
