Haifa University is the only university at Northern Israel; it comprises 15.000 students Jewish, Arabs, Christian and Druze. The Institute of Evolution includes 50 scientists and 23 laboratories, devoted to various level of organismic evolution from molecular to community level. The University is located in natural Mediterranean vegetation in the middle of the research sites.
The Laboratory of Pollination Ecology is focusing on pollination studies in Mt. Carmel with special reference to community level studies in relation to human disturbances, pollination of deceptive orchids and developments of new field methods in pollination biology especially concerning stigma and pollen biology.
Our laboratory is involved also in projects on competition between solitary bees and honeybees , biodiversity of flowering plants vs. solitary bees , issues of specialist vs. generalist as well as basic aspects of flower pattern, shape and form evolution.
