The Institute of Applied Environmental Research (ITM) in Stockholm, Sweden, was created in 1992,
when the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) transferred four of its laboratories to
Stockholm University.
Research conducted at ITM includes the
following disciplines:
• Atmospheric chemistry and physics
• Biochemistry and animal physiology
• Biogeochemistry
• Environmental organic and inorganic chemistry
• Limnology, Ecology and Ecotoxicology
Since 1992, the number of competitive research grants received by ITM has steadily increased and
ITM has become more involved in collaborations with other Swedish University departments as well
as with many international organizations. ITM has been involved in several on-going EU-funded research
projects and through these and other research projects collaborates with most other European
countries. Dr. Gustafsson’s research group have previous experience of coordinating a large 4th
framework research programme, GLOBAL-SOC.
