| | The Institute of Geobotany is one out of five institutes in the Faculty
of Biology of the University of Hannover. The Institute of Geobotany
holds the large scientific legacy of Reinhold and Johanna Tüxen and is
base of the Reinhold-Tüxen-Society. In addition one of the main
archives of peat research, the „Schneider Library“ has been
accommodated in the institute since 1989 as an independent foundation
library. The Institute of Geobotany focuses its research activities on
particular terrestrial and aquatic environments with ecological basic
investigation as well as applied research.
The institutes research address questions dealing with
1) agrogeobotany,
2) river landscapes of central Europe
3) ecological impacts of climate change,
4) limnic ecosystems as well as
5) marine and perimarine ecosystems.
There are close scientific and technical co-operations with several
research institutions of the University of Hannover as well as to
numerous foreign institutions and universities. The working group
“ecological climate change impacts” investigates shifts in the
distribution of species and changes in the composition of communities
and its consequences for the structure and functioning of the affected
ecosystems.
