The region around Reading, Berkshire, UK, and is characterised by mixed arable farming and
semi-natural habitats comprising broad-leafed woodland and calcareous grassland fragments. The natural site is near
Goring, and is composed of calcareous grassland and broad-leafed woodlands with some mixed arable farming and pasture; it
also includes the Local Nature Reserve, Hartslock, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Hartslock has been the
subject of several studies and some long-term datasets are

it has also
been included as a site in the Pollination Module ‘Methods testing’ experiment. The disturbed site is dominated by mixed arable
farming with a small amount of mixed woodland and park. The village of Great Shefford, part of a golf course, and one of the ‘Crop
pollination’ experimental sites, are present.
